2011: Made one start in seven appearances in her junior year at Wingate…Had a double and scored three runs on the season…Finished with a .250 on-base percentage
2010: Joya Wortham appeared in 23 games in her sophomore season at Wingate, collecting 10 hits, five RBI and two runs. She had an RBI and run scored at UNC Pembroke. Wortham had an RBI double against Georgia College. She had a pair of hits against Tusculum. Wortham was two-for-four with a double, two RBI and run scored against Catawba in the SAC Tournament.
2009: Wortham hit .213 in her first year with the Bulldogs. She appeared in 30 games, while starting 15 of them. She had four doubles, four RBi and five runs scored on the year. She was one-for-one with a double and two RBI against St. Andrews. Wortham went two-for-three with an RBI and two runs scored against Brevard.
PERSONAL: Wortham was a three-sport athlete at South Granville School of Health and Life Sciences. She won four letters in varsity softball playing under coach Crystal Chandler as a shortstop, second baseman and outfielder. Wortham was a co-captain of the softball team during her senior season and earned the Coaches Award. The Elementary Education major from Creedmoor, N.C. led her high school team in homeruns and was tied for the team-lead in RBI. Wortham has a strong athletic pedigree, as she is the cousin of former UNC and New York Giant great Lawrence Taylor. She is also the cousin of Clarkston Hines, who was the ACC Player-of-the-year for Duke University in 1989. Joya is the daughter of Kevin and Chanita Williams.

Why Joya chose Wingate: Because of the softball program and the vibe that the team gave me was very welcoming. Also, the campus is very nice and small and the classrooms are also small so I would be able to have a connection with my teachers if I need it.
