July Spotlight: Contact Restrictions

Contacting a PSA at Their Educational Institution

If a coach would like to have in person contact with a PSA at the PSA’s high school, college preparatory school or two year college they must receive permission to do so from that institution’s executive officer (or the executive officer’s authorized representative).  This also applies to international student-athletes.

Contacting a PSA at Their Practice of Competition Site

In person contact may not be made with a PSA before any athletics competition in which the PSA is a participant during the day or days of competition.  Such contact also includes the passing of notes to a PSA by a third party.

Contact at the site of a PSA’s practice or competition site shall be governed by the following:
  • No contact is to be made with the PSA at ANY site before the contest on the day or days of competition;
  • No contact is to be made with the PSA from the time the PSA reports on call (at the direction of the PSA’s coach or comparable authority) and becomes involved in competition related activity (e.g., traveling to an away from home game) to the end of the competition even if such competition related activities are initiated before the day or days of competition;
  • No contact is to be made after the competition until the PSA is released by the appropriate institutional authority and departs the dressing and meeting facility; and
  • No contact is to be make with a PSA involved in competition that requires more than one day of participation (e.g., a basketball tournament) until after the PSA’s final contest is completed and he or she is released by the appropriate institutional authority and leaves the dressing and meeting facility.
