Biography

2011: Dodson McPherson was the SAC and Region Player of the Year, while earning first team All-American accolades from the ABCA and NCBWA. He earned second team All-American honors from Daktronics, while finishing fifth in the Tino Martinez National Player of the Year Award voting. McPherson was also named the SAC Male Athlete of the Year. He led the SAC in hits (92), runs (65), homers (17), RBI (78), triples (five) and slugging percentage (.748). McPherson finished second in the league in batting average (.400), total bases (167) and on-base percentage (.466). He ranked in the top 10 nationally in hits (third), RBI (second), total bases (fourth), homers (fifth), runs (eighth) and slugging percentage (10th). McPherson led the team with 29 multi-hit games and 19 multi-RBI games. He reached base safely in 50 consecutive games and 55 of 56 in the 2011 season. McPherson had two hitting streaks of at least 14 games in the 2011 season. He either scored a run or drove in a run in 50 games on the year.

2010: McPherson hit .372 with four homers and 45 RBI in his sophomore season at Wingate. The preseason All-SAC selection led the ‘Dogs in RBI, on-base percentage and walks, while ranking second in runs scored, third in batting average, hits and runs scored. McPherson finished fifth on the team in slugging percentage and total bases. He tied for the team lead with 23 multi-hit games, while driving in two or more runs 12 times. McPherson was three-for-four with a homer and five RBI in the win over Lenoir-Rhyne. He went three-for-five with a triple, homer, seven RBI and four runs scored at Lenoir-Rhyne. McPherson drove in two and scored three against Catawba. He had a homer and two RBI against Brevard. McPherson had three hits, five RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader sweep at Newberry. He drove in three runs in the win over LMU. McPherson ended the season with a six-game hitting streak.

2009: McPherson was another freshman starter for the Bulldogs last season. He started in 31 games for Allen Osborne. McPherson had multiple hits in 10games last season, including four hits on three different occasions, all during conference games. Dodson led the team in triples last season with three. Showing some versatility, he recorded two stolen bases as well. McPherson ended the season with a .331 batting average. Dodson is the son of Worth and Debbie McPherson.
