Biography
Amber Hines notched three top-five finishes in 2007. Her top 2007 times include an 18:47 5K (pre-national meet, Sept. 15) and a 25:30 6K (NCAA regional meet, Nov. 3). She was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® women’s cross country/track & field first team (college division). A two-time team MVP, Hines placed second at the 2006 NCAA regional meet (23:38 6K) to earn an individual spot in the national championship race. The 2007 SAC Scholar-Athlete Award winner was also the conference women’s Runner of the Year from 2006. She is a two-time first team All-SAC performer.
Amber Hines was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® women’s cross country/track & field third team. She was the only sophomore out of 45 student-athletes named to either of the first, second or third teams. Hines was the 2006 South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Year, finishing first at the league meet with a time of 19:39. She finished in the top eight in eight of her nine races this season, including three first-place finishes, one second-place finish and two third-place finishes.
Hines was honored as a member of the 2005 SAC All-Freshman Team. Hines was also a member of the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2005. Her fastest 5K time of the 2005 season was 20:25 at the Food Lion SAC Championships. Hines ran a 25:25 6K at the NCAA regionals, hosted by Wingate (Nov. 5).
Hines was an All-State, All-Region and All-Area performer at Chapin High School. Along the way she was named the S.C. State 3A Runner of the Year and Female Track Runner of the Year. While at Chapin, her teams won two cross country state championships. In addition, she was the S.C. state track champion in the 1600. She was a state finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman. Amber is the daughter of George and Linda Hines.
