Biography

2011: Smith posted two top-five finishes as a junior. He was third in the Bulldog Stampede with an 8K time of 26:46. In the Wingate pre-SAC Invitational, Smith claimed fourth place with a 5K time of 17:02. Smith ran a 26:32 8K at the Winthrop Invitational. At the Food Lion SAC meet, he ran a 27:48 8K race, placing 22nd.

2010: Smith ran in all seven meets for the Bulldogs in his sophomore year. He had four top-fifteen finishes and was a second team All-SAC selection. His highest finish of the season was third in the WU Pre-SAC Invitational, and he also finished fourth in the Bulldog Stampede 8K. He finished 12th in the SAC Championship meet with a time of 26:28.

2009: Smith ran in seven meets for the Bulldogs during his freshman season. He ran a season-best 8K time of 28:45 at the SAC championship, held at Southside Park in Newton, N.C. on October 24th, finishing 24th overall.

Personal: Smith is an RA at Wingate. In addition, he participates in ORAC and Campus Outreach. Smith serves as a Breathe United worship leader. A member of the Sports Sciences club, Smith is a Dean’s List and SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student at Wingate.

High School: Andrew Smith was a four-sport athlete at West Stanly High School, earning varsity letters in cross-country, basketball, track and tennis. Smith led the West Stanly XC team to a runner-up finish in the 2A state meet during his senior year under the direction of coach Wendy Tucker. The Oakboro, N.C. native played high school tennis for coach Keith Hinson and advanced to the final eight of singles’ play in the 2A men’s tennis individual state championships as a senior. Andrew is the son of Alan and Amanda Smith.
