Wingate University Athletics

Doug Coats competed in nine events for Wingate in 2008, including three top-10 finishes. Coats finished a season-best fifth in the Pre-Conference race at Wingate on October 16th, completing the 5K race in 17:03. Coats is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee as well as a writer/editor for The Weekly Triangle, Wingate's campus newspaper.

As a sophomore in 2007, Coats ran in eight races and finished 15th in the Erskine Invitational. Coats ran a 27:54 at the SAC championships, earning him 29th place.

Doug Coats ran a 29:12 8k at the 2006 Queens University Invitational. It was his best time of 2006. His top 10k time was 37:22 at the Wingate Invitational.

Coats was named to the All-Conference team his junior and senior year in cross country. His performance during that time was also good enough to receive MVP honors of the Riverside High cross country team. While serving as captain of the cross country team his senior year, Doug ran a personal best 16:30 at the conference meet. Coats was an outfielder for the Riverside High baseball team and helped the team to a Conference championship his senior year. Doug is the son of Dale and Helen Coats. He plans to major in communications.
