Biography

2012: Lawson ran a 28:07 8K at the Food Lion South Atlantic Championship meet, earning a 19th place finish. In the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals, he posted a 34:41.5 10K time to finish second on Wingate's team charts.

2011: Lawson ran a 28:08 8K at Wingate’s Bulldog Stampede, earning an 11th place finish. He recorded a 17:01 5K time at the pre-SAC Invitational, good enough for a third-place showing on Wingate’s home course. Lawson’s 27:40 at Winthrop was his best 8K time of the season.

2010: Lawson competed in seven of seven meets for the Bulldogs during his freshman campaign. His highest finish of the year was 20th at the Bulldog Stampede 8K. He posted a time of 30:42. Lawson earned 26th place in the Food Lion South Atlantic Championship meet with a time of 27:18.

Personal: Lawson was the recipient of the Wingate University Helms English Award as a sophomore. He is the president of Phi Eta Sigma, the largest honors fraternity on campus. Lawson is very active on campus, serving as a community assistant (CA), writing center tutor and professor’s assistant. He is a member of the Campus Outreach, ORAC and Ultimate Frisbee club. A SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student, Lawson is a five-time intramural champion.

High School: A North Raleigh Christian Academy product, James Lawson helped lead them to a fifth-place finish at the 2009 NCISAA state championships. He has also posted the third-fastest time in NRCA school history. Lawson has ties to the SAC, as his father went to Carson-Newman College on a track and field scholarship. James is the son of Greg and Betty Lawson.
