2012: Hammond won the South Atlantic Conference individual championship, posting a gold-medal 8K time of 26:26.0. He was named first team All-SAC for the third year in a row. Hammond took eighth place in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region championships, recording a 10K time of 32:12.3. He ran a personal-best 8K time of 26:12.3 in the Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 28.

2011: Hammond won the Bulldog Stampede 8K race, posting a 26:09 time. The previous week, he ran a 26:08 8K race at the Winthrop Invitational. Hammond was named first team All-SAC, thanks to his seventh-place finish (27:06 8K). During the 2012 Wingate track season, Hammond recorded an NCAA Division II provisional time of 9:18.88 in the 3000 meter Steeplechase (Wolfpack Last Chance, May 13, 2012).

2010: Hammond competed in seven of seven meets for the Bulldogs his freshman year, making four top-10 finishes. Hammond won the WU Pre-SAC Invitational as well as finishing second in the Bulldog Stampede 8K. He finished sixth in the Food Lion SAC Championship meet with a time of 26:01. He was the SAC Freshman of the Year, a first team All-SAC honoree and a SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection.

Personal: Hammond has received USTFCCA academic honors in both track and cross country. He is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma academic fraternity at Wingate. A SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection (twice), Hammond is a Dean’s List student at Wingate. He also participates in the ORAC Club and the Sports Science Club.

High School: A graduate of River View High School, Steve Hammond was an All-Ohio Cross Country selection and a Academic All-Ohio selection his junior year. In the East Central Ohio League, he was an All-League selection in Cross Country three times and in Track four times. Hammond also played soccer and basketball at River View. He will major in Sport Management at Wingate. Steve’s grandfather, Dick Hammond played quarterback for the University of Miami (Ohio). Steve is the son of Tom and Gigi Hammond.
