Wingate University Athletics

Ed Trussell contributed in many ways to Wingate’s historic 2010 season. He played in 12 of 12 games for the SAC champion Bulldogs. He had one catch for 12 yards in a season-opening victory at West Georgia (Aug. 28, 2010). As a valued member of Wingate’s special teams, he made seven tackles on the season. Trussell’s blocking as both a tight end and a fullback helped 2011 graduate Nelson Woods rush for 1000 yards three times in his career.

In 2009, Trussell saw action in three games. In 2008, Trussell participated in 11 of 11games. The same season, he had one carry for four yards against Brevard (Oct. 4, 2008) and one pass reception for eight yards versus Saint Paul’s (Aug. 30, 2008). The Bulldogs won both contests. Trussell spent the 2007 campaign as a redshirt.

Trussell was a member of the football and track teams at Lexington High School. His football coach was Bart Miller. Trussell earned All-Conference laurels in football. A team captain in football, he won the team’s Loyalty and Leadership Award for his efforts. An honor graduate from Lexington, Trussell was a member of the National Honor Society as well. At Wingate, Trussell has spent time as a member of the Campus Outreach organization and the University Wind Ensemble. Ed is the son of Gene and Mary Nell Trussell.
