Nelson Woods posted 378 yards and seven touchdowns for the high-powered Wingate offense in 2009. He contributed to the air attack with six catches for 39 yards. In a nationally-televised victory at Tusculum (Sept. 25, 2009), Woods had a field day with 17 rushes for 133 yards and three touchdowns. The three visits to pay dirt equal his career-best contest.

A first team All-SAC selection in 2008, Woods rushed for 1238 yards on 248 carries. He led the league in both yards and carries the same season. Woods recorded career highs in attempts (30), yards (205) and touchdowns (three) in the 2008 season finale against Mars Hill. He hit the 100-yard mark five times in 2008. Wingate was 5-0 in those contests.

In 2007, the SAC head coaches named Woods the league’s 2007 offensive Freshman of the Year. In his first Bulldog campaign, Woods rushed 232 times for 1,174 yards and 11 touchdowns. He collected a season-high 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns against Davidson. Woods topped the 100-yard plateau seven times during his inaugural season. His SAC high was a 160-yard effort at Catawba. In 2007, Woods averaged 109.7 all-purpose yards per game. At Burns High School in Lawndale, N.C., Woods was a three-year varsity letter winner in football. In addition, Woods was the team MVP and an All-Star team selection. He earned awards as a running back and a free safety for the Burns Bulldogs. Nelson is the son of Sandra Woods and Willie Moss.
