Wingate University Athletics

Philip Thomas was a leader in the receiving corps for the Bulldogs, grabbing 25 catches for 379 yards in 2009. Thomas had four TD catches last year. At Carson-Newman, he posted six catches for 102 yards and one score. Thomas is Wingate’s holder on field goals and PATs. He had four special teams’ tackles in 2009. His accomplishments on and off the field earned him the Charlotte Touchdown Club Scholarship. A team captain, Thomas is very active in the Campus Outreach at Wingate University. A SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student, Thomas is also a member of Wingate’s Academic top 10. He is a tutor in Wingate’s Academic Resource Center (ARC).

In 2008, Thomas caught 18 passes for 197 yards and one touchdown. He caught three passes for 54 yards and one score in a home victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. Thomas added two tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery to his ledger. He caught at least one pass in eight of Wingate’s 11 games. Thomas caught one pass for nine yards against Carson-Newman in 2007. At Milton Hershey School, Thomas was a letter winner in football, wrestling and baseball. He was a second team All-Conference selection in football his senior season. During his career, Milton Hershey won division championships in football and wrestling. Thomas was a district qualifier in wrestling. Also, he was a Mid-Penn Capital Division All-Star team pick in baseball. Thomas was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Milton Hershey. Philip Thomas is the son of Michael Thomas and Laurie Lichlyter.
