Biography

Shelton Nelson will celebrate his third year as a starter in 2008. Wingate is 15-7 overall during Nelson’s two seasons as starter. Nelson and the Bulldog O-Line helped Nelson Woods rush for 1,174 yards last season. In 2006, the Wingate passing game was first among SAC teams (and eighth in NCAA Division II) at 273.8 yards per game. Nelson and the Bulldogs ranked second in the SAC in total offense per game with 342.7 yards per contest in 2006. During his time at J.H. Rose High School, Nelson played on the 2003 4A state championship football team. He was an All-Conference and All-County selection his junior and senior seasons.
