2012-13: Odell Turner started all 31 of Wingate’s 31 games in his senior year. Turner averaged 11.7 points per game, 9.4 rebounds per game and 1.7 assists per game. Turner had two games with his season high of 19 points (Clayton State and Johnson C. Smith). He finished his season with six double-doubles, pulling down a season-high 19 rebounds against JCSU (Dec. 8). Turner compiled 10 games with double-digit rebounds. An All-SAC performer, Turner helped Wingate win its second consecutive Food Lion SAC tournament title. The Bulldogs made the NCAA Division II tournament for the second year in a row.
2011-12: Turner averaged 11.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks and 1.2 steals per game in 33 contests (32 starts). Turner led the Bulldogs rebounds, blocks and minutes played (914). Turner scored in double figures in 21 games during his junior campaign. Turner had his season-high 22 points against Limestone. Turner had four double-doubles on the year, with a three-game streak of double-doubles. At Queens, he had 18 points and 15 rebounds. He scored 21 points and pulled down 15 rebounds against Armstrong. Turner was named an honorable mention pre-season All-American by the Sporting News.
2010-11: For the second straight year, Turner topped the charts for the Bulldogs in almost every category, averaging 15.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals per game. He scored double figures 25 times with seven games over 20 points and one 30 point game against Francis Marion (a career high). Turner also had seven double-double games throughout the season. He was selected first team All-SAC. In addition, he was a two-time SAC Player of the Week and the Bulldogs’ most valuable player. In the SAC statistical rankings, Turner was eighth in overall scoring, third in rebounding, fifth in blocked shots and ninth in field goal percentage.
He hit 11-of-12 shots in the victory over Francis Marion. He added nine rebounds to his 30 points in the FMU win. Turner had 19 points on seven-of-11 shooting in the win at Catawba. He scored at least 22 in three consecutive league wins in February, totaling 70 points, 28 rebounds and nine blocks, while hitting 28-of-37 shots from the field and 14-of-15 free throws. Turner had 14 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the win over Mars Hill. He had 25 points, six rebounds and three blocks in Wingate’s victory over Brevard in the quarterfinals of the Food Lion SAC tournament.
2009-10: Turner led the Bulldogs with 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds in his first season with the Bulldogs, earning SAC Freshman of the Year honors. He finished 14th in the SAC in scoring and fifth in rebounding. Turner shot 49 percent from the field, good for 13th in the conference, while ranking seventh with 1.36 blocks per game. He scored in double figures 20 times on the season, while notching three double-doubles. Turner had 21 points on seven-of-10 shooting against Queens. He had his first career double-double in the Bulldogs' win over Mount Olive, collecting 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Turner followed the MOC performance with 18 points and 13 boards against Georgia College & State. Turner had 22 points against Catawba, and followed with 18 points on six-of-10 shooting against Carson-Newman. Turner had 15 points and 17 rebounds in the win over Mars Hill, adding four assists and two steals. He had 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks against Brevard in the SAC tournament.
High School: Turner was the 2009 Southwestern (4A) Conference and District 9 Player of the Year for head coach
Rick Lewis at Myers Park High School. During his senior season, Turner averaged 18 points per game, 10 rebounds per game and two blocked shots per game for the Mustangs. Myers Park compiled a 24-7 overall record during Turner’s senior campaign.
Turner’s trophy case includes recognition as a second team All-State selection in 2009. In addition, he was named All-Conference and All-District two years each. During his career, the Mustangs won two conference regular season championships, a conference tournament title and a sectional tournament crown. Turner joins Alexander as a member of the Myers Park 1000-point club. The Mustangs were 64-18 overall during the dynamic duo’s careers.
