Biography
2011-12: Denton posted a 72.9 stroke average in his 10 events (through 4/17/12). The first team All-SAC performer finished in the top five in five events, while earning medalist honors in the last regular season event of the year. Denton finished in a tie for first at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, but lost in the playoff, finishing five-under in the event with rounds of 70 and 69. Denton followed with a third-place finish in the final event in the fall, shooting rounds of 71, 70 and 70 at Tanglewood.
Denton fired a season-best 67 in the opening round of the Tusculum Invitational and finished in a tie for fourth at the event. He took home the individual title at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate, firing rounds of 69 and 68 to finish seven-under-par, leading Wingate to the team title. Denton finished at even par or better in four of his 10 tournaments on the season.
2010-11: Denton recorded a 77.3 stroke average in 22 events. At the Will Wilson/Southeast Preview, he tied for ninth place with a three-round total of 218. He posted back-to-back rounds of 72 after an opening 74 in the Tanglewood event. Denton opened the fall season with a 10th place finish in the Anderson (S.C.) Invitational (73-75=148).
2009-10: Denton competed in seven tournaments with a season-best fifth-place finish in the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate. Denton shot a season-low 70 in the Carolina Sands event.
Personal: Brian Denton was All-Conference and All-Academic for four years each while a student-athlete at Knightdale High School. Denton won the Eastern North Carolina Optimist Qualifying Tournament and earned to play in the national Optimist event in West Palm Beach, Fla.
In 2009, Denton won the NCHSAA regional championship and the Coastal Plains title. He shot a 66-69=135 to take the Junior Amateur title. Brian Denton is the son of Steve and Alma Sue Denton. His sister Ashley was a four-year member of the Wingate women’s golf team.
