Biography

2013-14: Sam Knapp swam the following career-best times at the ninth annual SCAD College Invitational in Savannah, Ga. Dec. 5: 1:48.48 (200 Freestyle) and 1:51.25 (200 Backstroke). At the Wingate Fall Frenzy, he beat a previous time in the 50 Backstroke by swimming 24.72. He opened his season at the Quad Meet in Charlotte with the following times: 1:50.59 (200 Freestyle) and 25.32 (50 Backstroke) (WU Swim top times report).

2012-13: Knapp received All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference honors in the 200 Backstroke (1:51.90) at the 15th Annual BMC Swimming Championships, helping the Bulldogs win their sixth straight BMC title. Knapp put his name in the Wingate all-time top 10 record book with his sophomore year times in the 100 Backstroke (51.07) 200 Backstroke (1:51.90) and the 200 Individual Medley (1:57.51). Each of these times was achieved at the BMC event (WU Swim top times report).

2011-12: In the 2012 BMC meet, Knapp competed in the 100 Backstroke (53.03), the 200 Backstroke (1:56.93) and the 200 Individual Medley (2:01.79) as Wingate won the team championship. He recorded a 23.13 50 Freestyle at the SCAD Invitational.

Personal: Sam Knapp swam for two years at Bob Jones High School in Madison, Ala., helping the men’s swimming team win two consecutive Alabama state championships. Knapp notched top-eight finishes in the 100 Backstroke both years, while finishing in the 50 Freestyle top 16 as a senior. He was a state champion on the 4x100 Freestyle Relay his senior year. Knapp earned honorable mention honors for area swimmer of the year in 2010 from the Huntsville Times. He spent time with the Madison Swim Association and the Madison Dolphins swim clubs.
