Wingate University Athletics

2011-12: Spencer Waganaar was the MVP for the 2012 Wingate men’s swimming team. A Capital One Academic All-America® candidate, Spencer has 13 All-Conference swims and six All-American swims. Wingate has three BMC titles during his career.

2010-11: Waganaar earned All-American honors in the 800 Freestyle Relay at the national championships in San Antonio. He received honorable mention distinctions in the 400 Freestyle and Medley Relays. Waganaar was an All-Bluegrass Mountain Conference selection in the 100 Breaststroke, the 200 Individual Medley, the 200, 400 and 800 Freestyle Relays and the 400 Medley Relay.

Waganaar currently holds the fourth-fastest time in the 100 Freestyle, the 100 Breaststroke and the 200 IM events. He also has the fifth-fastest time in the 100 Butterfly. In relay events, Waganaar is part of the team who holds the fourth-fastest time in the 200 Freestyle relay. In addition, he is part of the team who holds the first and second-fastest times in the 400 Medley Relay. Waganaar is part of the team who holds the second and fourth-fastest times in the 800 Freestyle relay.

2009-10: Waganaar made a strong comeback after missing the first part of the season due to injury. Waganaar won several All-BMC awards and earned his way to the NCAA Division II national championship meet, where he competed in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Freestyle Relay.

High School: Spencer Waganaar attended Satellite High School, where he was a multiple letter winner in swimming. He was named co-captain his senior year as well as team MVP. Waganaar was named All-County Swimmer of the Year during his senior campaign, as he led his team to a state title. Spencer is the son of Barbara and Michael Waganaar.
