Stephen Sousa

Stephen Sousa begins his first year as Head Men's & Women's Track & Field coach in 2019-20. He comes to Wingate after one year as head coach at William Peace University while previously serving at Queens (N.C.) for two years as an assistant track and field coach. 

Sousa earned his Bachelor of Arts in History at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. While at UWW, Sousa was an NCAA Indoor National Championship Qualifier for the Heptathlon and NCAA Outdoor All-American for the Decathlon in 2014. His personal best in those events are 5016 in the Heptathlon and 6761 in the Decathlon. In 2015, Sousa earned the title of NCAA Indoor All-American for the Heptathlon. Upon graduating, in 2017 Sousa qualified for the USATF Indoor National Championship where he competed and placed 9th. 

Originally from San Diego, CA, Sousa originally played football for Colorado Mesa University. He then transferred to San Diego Mesa College where he played football and ran track before finishing at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to wrap up his track and field career.
