Gary Hines

Gary Hines joined the Wingate University softball coaching staff in the summer of 2019 as a Volunteer Assistant Coach. He spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach at Baker University for current Wingate head coach Jamie Stanclift.

During his time at Baker, Hines helped guide the Wildcats to a pair of national tournament appearances. Baker ranked as high as 12th nationally, while winning the Heart Conference regular season and tournament in 2019. He guided the NAIA National Pitcher of the Year (Olivia Brees) in 2019, who was also named the CoSIDA Academic All-America of the Year each of the last two seasons. She ranked second nationally in opponents’ batting average and hits allowed per game, while ranking third in ERA and saves.

Prior to his time at Baker, Hines spent time at the University of Kansas, Emporia State University and Iowa State University. He was at Kansas from 1976-1988, coaching five Big 12 pitchers including one All-American. Hines was a pitching consultant at Emporia State from 2002-2005, where he helped two players earn All-American honors. Hines was at Iowa State from 2006-2012, helping the squad notch a 2.52 team ERA and had a pitcher register the most strikeouts in team history in over 20 years.
