Wingate University Athletics

Melanie Savala joins the Wingate coaching staff after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Millsaps College. In her final season at Millsaps, Savala helped lead the squad to an 11-7 record in league play in the 2022 seasons, finishing third in the league standings while also having the SAA Player of the Year. Savala was heavily involved in recruting, practice planning, individual/group practices with players, team management, and team travel. 

Savala played for four years at the University of Dallas from 2015 through 2019. She holds the single-game stolen base record and holds the program record with 156 games played, ranking fourth in career stolen bases. She earned all-conference and academic all-conference accolades in her career. Savala was inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education in 2018, and graduated from the University of Dallas with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in 2019.
