Biography
2013-14: Janitsha Williams was named to the pre-season All-South Atlantic Conference second team, as selected by the league’s sports information directors.
2012-13: Williams was named to the All-SAC team following her junior season. She led the Bulldogs and ranked in the league’s top 10 with 13.3 points per game. Williams was third on the 2012-13 WU team with 6.0 rebounds per contest, while also registering a team-best 58 steals. Her 2.0 steals per game ranked fourth in the SAC. She shot 44.6 percent from the field and 77.4 percent from the free throw line. Williams averaged 13.9 points per game against league opponents.
Williams scored in double figures in 24 of Wingate’s 29 games, scoring at least 15 points 11 times. She had 15 points and eight rebounds in Wingate’s victory at number 20 Lander. She registered 18 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Tusculum. Williams had 22 points and nine rebounds in the win at Mars Hill, going nine-for-13 from the field. She had 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting against Brevard. Williams contributed 16 points and seven rebounds in the Catawba victory. She scored 23 points against regular season SAC champion Anderson.
2011-12: Williams posted 9.9 points per game during her sophomore campaign. She led Wingate with 32 three-point field goals. Williams hit a season-high 21 points in two Wingate victories: UNC Pembroke and Lander (regular season). She had back-to-back, 16-point games in SAC victories over Mars Hill and Newberry. She opened the 2011-12 campaign with an 18-point effort in a triumph over Winston-Salem State. Williams hit double-digit points 16 times during her sophomore season. She filled out her statistical ledger with 4.3 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game and 1.3 steals per game.
2010-11: Williams made 30 appearances for the Bulldogs, starting 11 times. She was named to the All-SAC Freshman team. Williams finished third on the team and 22nd in the SAC with 9.9 points per game. She was even better in conference games, averaging 11.1 points per contest. Williams was ninth in the league, shooting 37.8 percent from beyond the arc, while her 80.0 percent shooting from the free throw line was good for 10th in the conference. She hit 87.3 percent of her free throws in SAC play, ranking second in the league.
Williams hit double figures 13 times in 30 games. She scored 13 points in 19 minutes in her collegiate debut, helping Wingate defeat Belmont Abbey in the season opener. She scored 18 points on six-of-nine shooting against Georgia College. Williams had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Wingate past Lincoln Memorial. She had 24 points on seven-of-11 shooting in the win over Mars Hill. Williams finished the regular season with her first career double-double, scoring 24 points on eight-of-12 shooting, while pulling down 10 rebounds.
High School: Williams was a varsity team member for three seasons at Statesville High School, where she played for head coach Todd Jones. Williams led the Greyhounds in scoring and rebounding her junior and senior seasons. She averaged 19 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per game as a junior and 16 points per game and seven rebounds per game as a senior. Williams scored 1000 points during her high school career.
Williams has a full trophy case, as she was named All-Iredell County and All-Conference three years each. She was the Greyhounds MVP her junior and senior seasons. Williams was named to the All-Charlotte Observer team following her junior campaign. She was a team captain in both basketball and volleyball at Statesville. Williams was a multiple letter winner in volleyball and track for the Greyhounds. She attended Bunker Hill High School as a freshman, earning basketball team MVP laurels. Janitsha is the daughter of Jack and Jacinta Williams.
