Biography
2013-14: Valerie Dembny swam a career-best 1:56.71 in the 200 Freestyle at the ninth annual SCAD College Invitational in Savannah, Ga. Dec. 5. She opened her senior year with a time of 2:00.03 in the 200 Freestyle at the Queens vs. Wingate dual meet in Charlotte (

2012-13: Dembny was a three-time All-American (200 Individual Medley and two relay events) as the Bulldogs finished a school-best, fifth place at the 2013 NCAA Division II championship meet. Dembny scored individual points at the NCAA meet for the first time in career. Dembny and her Bulldog teammates won the 2013 Bluegrass Mountain Conference meet as she earned All-BMC laurels in five events. She helped Wingate win the 400 Medley Relay at the 2013 BMC meet. Dembny holds school records in the 100 Butterfly, the 200 IM plus two relays. She was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® at-large second team by CoSIDA (

2011-12: Dembny was an honorable mention All-American in the 200 and the 400 Medley Relay events. She was All-BMC in five events (200 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Back, 200 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay). Dembny holds school records in the 100 Butterfly and the 100 and the 200 Backstroke. She was named to the Capital One Academic All-America® at-large third team by CoSIDA.
2010-11: Dembny received honorable mention All-America laurels in the 200 Free relay and 200 Medley relay events in San Antonio. She recorded the fastest WU time in the 100 fly and holds the second-fastest time in the 200 IM. Dembny currently holds the second-fastest time in the 100 Free and 100 Back. In relay events, she is part of the team which holds the top three fastest times in the 200 Free relay and the first, third and fourth-fastest times in the 200 Medley relay. She was also part of the team which holds the first and fifth-fastest times in the 400 Free relay and the team that holds the fastest time in the 400 Medley relay. She was an All-BMC selection in the 100 Fly, 100 Back, 200 IM, 200 and 400 Free relay and the 200 and 400 Medley relay events.
Personal: Valerie Dembny earned many honors at Gymnasium Horn in Germany. A member of the SSG Bremen/Bremerhaven, Dembny earned several German national cuts and qualified for the junior finals at Nationals. She was the Northern German champion in the 50 Breaststroke. At Pike (Ind.) High School, she earned multiple All-Conference honors for the Red Devils in 2008. Dembny was a captain and team MVP. Valerie is the daughter of
