Biography

2017-18: Danasia Witherspoon started all 32 games for the Bulldogs…Named Second team All-SAC during her junior season…Averaged 10.2 points per game, 7.3 rebounds, 1.9 assist per game and 1.8 steals per game...Ranked second in the SAC in offensive rebounds and seventh in steals and total rebounds…Collected six double doubles on the season…Had 17 points, 11 rebounds, four assist and three steals against Clayton State…Notched 17 points, 10 rebounds, four assist, two blocks and three steals in the Tusculum win…Went a perfect five-for-five from the field at Tusculum, adding five rebounds, two assist and two steals.

2016-17: Witherspoon was named second team All-South Atlantic Conference as a sophomore…Finished second on the WU charts with 13.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in 31 games (30 starts)…Completed season second on team (and sixth in the SAC) with her 50.3 percent field goal clip…Led the Bulldogs and placed seventh in the league with 47 total steals…Finished sixth in the conference individual standings with 87 total offensive rebounds…
 
Witherspoon’s best game of her sophomore campaign came in a crucial SAC road encounter versus Lenoir-Rhyne on Jan. 25, when she tallied 25 points and six rebounds while nailing nine-of-12 shots from the floor (75 percent)…Posted her second-highest point total of the season in the previous game against Mars Hill, scoring 22 points on seven-of-eight shots (87.5 percent) and a perfect eight-of-eight tosses from the free-throw line…
 
Witherspoon also scored 20-plus points at Newberry (21) on Nov. 30, 2016, 20 points and 11 rebounds at Carson-Newman (Jan. 7) and 20 markers in the Bulldogs’ victory at (then) undefeated and fourth-ranked Lincoln Memorial…Scored double-digit points in 23 out of 31 contests…SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student…

2015-16: Witherspoon was honorable mention All-SAC and All-SAC Freshman team during her first year with the Bulldogs…led Wingate with her 53.5 percent field goal accuracy (116-of-217)…third on the Bulldog team with her 9.8 points per game…second (to Class of 2016 member Morgan McGee) with her 5.1 rebounds per game…in only her eighth game in the Navy Blue and Vegas Gold, Witherspoon hit a career-high 29 points in a SAC road victory at Brevard…made 13-of-20 field goals in the triumph, adding 11 rebounds for her first career double-double...
 
In SAC regular season play, Witherspoon was Wingate’s leading scorer with her 10.4 points per game…thirteen of her 14 double-figure scoring games were against SAC foes…high-scoring game during the second semester was a 19-point effort at Coker...Earlier, Witherspoon posted a double-double (10 points, 11 rebounds) in a home win over the Cobras...
 
In the final week of the regular season, Witherspoon averaged a team-best 14.0 points per game while shooting 73.3 percent from the floor as Wingate won two SAC games to finish tied for second in the final regular season standings…14 points each in victories over Catawba and (then) number 21 Anderson…grabbed 6.0 rebounds per game in the Catawba and Anderson contests...SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student…

Prior to Wingate: Danasia Witherspoon played varsity basketball for four seasons at Hickory High School; her head coach was Barbara Helms. She averaged 14.7 points per game, five rebounds per game, 4.6 steals per game and 3.5 assists per game her final season. Witherspoon was a two-time team MVP and two-time team captain for Hickory.

As a junior, Witherspoon averaged 20 points per game, six rebounds per game and 5.5 assists per game and 3.5 steals per game as she received conference Player of the Year honors. She was a first team All-State performer as a junior, helping the Red Tornadoes reach the N.C. 4A state championship game.

Witherspoon’s trophy case includes awards for all-conference, all-district and all-state four years each. She is also a four-time All-Unifour team member. She was Hickory’s best defensive player award winner as a freshman and best offensive player award winner as a sophomore. Witherspoon has earned a spot on the Catawba Valley Classic all-tournament team four years in a row.

In the HHS classroom, Witherspoon posted a 4.2 GPA. She was a four-year member of both the Beta Club and the National Honor Society. She was consistently listed on Hickory High’s honor roll. Witherspoon received the United States Achievement Academy national science award as a freshman. Witherspoon is the daughter of Shanté Floyd.
