Wingate University Athletics

Dr. Barry Cuffe joined the Wingate University faculty in the fall of 1994. He became the school’s Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) during the 2008-09 school year. He is a Professor of Management Science in the School of Business, teaching statistical analysis and quantitative decision techniques.

His FAR duties in the Wingate athletic department include certifying academic eligibility of transfer student-athletes from two-year and four-year institutions, as well as certifying continuing academic eligibility of current student-athletes. The Faculty Athletics Representative plays a key role in the oversight of the athletics program and works to ensure the academic integrity of the athletics program and the welfare of student-athletes.

Dr. Cuffe graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. degree in 1976. He had a double major in Mathematics and Physics. He received an M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from the Indiana University in 1980. Cuffe earned a Ph.D. in Management Science from the University of Miami in 1994.

During his time at Miami, Cuffe was a member of the baseball squad from 1973-76. The FAR position is not his exposure to Wingate University athletics. He served four seasons as the school’s junior varsity baseball coach
