Erika Torrez was hired in 2021 as the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance/Rules Education, and in 2022 was promoted to the role of Senior Woman Administrator.
Torrez oversees the daily compliance operations at Wingate in addition to facilitating the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
She joined the department after spending six years working in compliance at Arizona State University. Her roles included administering NCAA, Pac-12 and ASU compliance initiatives related to all aspects of financial aid, while also serving as the liaison to the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, Student Business Services Office and Office of Student-Athlete Development regarding financial aid. Torrez also administered all aspects of the NCAA Student Assistance Fund and coordinated and administered the National Letter of Intent program.
Torrez was also in charge of monitoring CARA logs as well as individual and team recruiting activities to ensure compliance with NCAA and conference rules. She assisted with weekly and monthly rules education for student-athletes, coaches, staff and outside departments. Torrez was also in charge of reviewing and approving staff declarations, reviewing and approving playing and practice season declarations and traveled with various sports including football and basketball for monitoring purposes and to answer any questions.
Torrez began her career in compliance at Long Beach State in May of 2012, working as a Compliance intern. She then took a job in the Compliance office at San Diego State University, while also working at Geiger Law Office where she managed the legal department among other duties.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from UNC Charlotte, graduating in 2008. She then earned her Juris Doctor degree from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, graduating Summa Cum Laude while ranking second in her class of 182 students and earning the Dean's Merit Scholarship while also earning Distinguished Honor Roll recognition.
