Wingate University Athletics

After spending several years as a high school football and wrestling coach, Mario Paylor enters 2021-22 in his first year with the Wingate athletic department as the assistant director of compliance and internal operations.  

Paylor was a three-year football captain at Guilford College where he studied Sport Management. After college, he began coaching on the scholastic level. At Northern Durham High School, he coached football and wrestling. There he had numerous players receive all-conference awards, including future Wingate alumnus Domineke McNeill ‘20.  He also coached two state champions and three All-Americans in wrestling. Later on, Mario coached football at Fort Mill High School before working in the private sector.

Mario is a native of Bahama, N.C., in Durham County.  He lives in Waxhaw with his wife Becca ’10, their son Evan and their faithful dog Lucky.
