Wingate University senior guard Tiffany Brown (Cartersville, Ga.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday. Brown receives SAC Player of the Week laurels for the first time in her Wingate career.
Brown led Wingate to two home victories last week. Brown averaged 14.0 points per game, 3.0 assists per game, 2.0 rebounds per game and 2.0 steals per game as the Bulldogs improved to 10-1 overall in Cuddy Arena this season.
The Cartersville High School product had 13 points against Lenoir-Rhyne, hitting three-of-four three-point field goals. On Saturday against Tusculum, Brown shared team high-scoring honors with sophomore guard Janitsha Williams (Statesville, N.C.) as she netted 15 points. Brown was four-for-six from the floor, nailing her only three-point field goal attempt.
For the week, Brown shot an amazing 64.3 percent from the floor (nine-of-14) and 80 percent from behind the three-point line (four-of-five). Brown was a perfect six-of-six from the charity stripe. Wingate averaged 82 points per game last week in victories over Tusculum Saturday (73-55) and Lenoir-Rhyne Wednesday (91-76).
Brown is averaging 13.7 points per game in Wingate’s last three contests. In her previous 18 appearances this season, she averaged 4.4 points per game. The Bulldogs hit the road for their next three league contests. Wingate visits Newberry Wednesday (6 p.m.) and Mars Hill Saturday (2 p.m.). The Bulldogs are part of a three-way tie for second place in the SAC standings.
