Wingate University senior forward Odell Turner (Charlotte, N.C.) earned SAC Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday afternoon. Turner led the Bulldogs to home victories over UNC Pembroke and Clayton State, as Wingate improved to 3-2 on the season. He wins the award for the fourth time in his career.
Turner averaged 17.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. He started his week with 16 points and 14 rebounds in the 71-45 win over UNC Pembroke. Turner hit five-of-nine shots from the field, knocking down all six free throws on the day while adding four assists, two steals and a block. He had 19 points and eight rebounds in Saturday’s 68-53 win over Clayton State.
The preseason All-SAC selection leads the Bulldogs with 13.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game this season. A first team All-SAC selection during his sophomore year, Turner has scored 1,211 points during his Wingate career.
The Bulldogs return to action Wednesday, opening SAC play at Catawba at 8 p.m.
