Wingate University junior Morgan Winston (Lawrenceville, Ga.) earned South Atlantic Conference women’s tennis Player of the Week honors. The 2012 Food Lion SAC Tournament MVP won Player of the Week honors for the second time in her career.
Winston went 2-0 in number three singles play on the week, while also going 2-0 in doubles action, leading the Bulldogs to a 2-0 week. The two-time defending SAC champions are 8-0 in conference play this season.
Winston led Wingate to victories over Mars Hill and Anderson. In singles play, Winston earned straight-set victories over Mars Hill's Marian Pinate and Anderson's Camie Beaulieu-Brune. In doubles action, she teamed with senior Kelli Ferguson (Concord, N.C.) to earn wins over MHC's Anna Rickenbaker and Alison Fridley and AU's Hannah Ecleberryand Lindsay Gregory.
Winston is 12-5 in singles play for the Bulldogs, holding a 7-1 record against SAC opponents. She has won six straight matches and eight of her last 10. She is also 12-5 in doubles play this season. Winston and Ferguson are 8-4 as a doubles team, which includes a 6-1 record against league opponents.
