Wingate University senior women's cross country student-athlete Keeley Wood (Sanford, N.C.) won the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference meet for the second year in a row, leading a 1-2-3-4 WU finish as the Bulldogs claimed the team title Saturday. Wood led wire-to-wire, breaking the tape with a 5K time of 18:47.3. Six Bulldogs received All-SAC honors.
Wingate's 19 points ties a league record set in the SAC's first championship season (1993), when Carson-Newman won the first-ever Food Lion SAC meet with the identical score. The Bulldogs have two SAC championships, as Wingate won the 2007 event. The Bulldogs will compete in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Saturday, Nov. 9 in Charlotte. Queens (N.C.) hosts the event at the McAlpine Creek Park.
