Wingate University sophomore All-American Roman Kanyuka won the 100 Breaststroke at the SCAD-Savannah College Invitational, while finishing second to junior teammate Damjan Petrovski (Skopje, Macedonia) in a hotly-contested 200 Breaststroke championship final.
In the 100 Breaststroke, Kanyuka posted a triumphant time of 55.17, the 10th-best time in the NCAA Division II this season. He narrowly missed his own SCAD Invite record of 55.06, set in the 2013 event. In the 200 Breaststroke, Kanyuka swam a 2:01.41 in the preliminaries, the eighth-best time in the NCAA Division II this year. Petrovski won the 200 Breaststroke final with a time of 2:01.46. Kanyuka was second at 2:01.61.
Kanyuka and three teammates won the SCAD Invite 200 Medley Relay. The Bulldogs won the event with a time of 1:31.73, barely missing the meet record of 1:31.57. Kanyuka was joined on the victorious quartet by freshman Brendan Ryan (Havertown, Pa.), sophomore Leif-Henning Klüver (Risum-Lindholm, Germany) and senior Issam Zeraidi (Brussels, Belgium).
