Wingate University junior student-athlete Alexis Divelbiss (Pueblo, Colo.) received national recognition for her efforts in the pool last week. She is this week’s Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week as named by CollegeSwimming.com. Divelbiss collected five gold medals on the way to BMC Swimmer of the Year honors at last week’s conference championship meet.
Divelbiss won three individual events (200 and 400 Individual Medley and 100 Freestyle) and two relay competitions (800 and 400 Freestyle Relays). In addition, she earned a silver medal in the 400 Medley Relay and a bronze medal in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
In the 800 Freestyle Relay Wednesday, Wingate posted an NCAA Division II “A” cut with its triumphant school-record time of 7:19.50. Divelbiss established a school-record with her 200 Freestyle time of 1:48.10 on the first leg. The gold-medal swim qualified the quartet for the NCAA Division II national championship meet in Birmingham next month.
On Thursday, Divelbiss won the 200 Individual Medley with her time of 2:01.34. On Friday, Divelbiss touched first in the 400 Individual Medley with her triumphant time of 4:22.09. On Saturday, Divelbiss won the 100 Freestyle with her time of 50.28. She swam the anchor leg as the Bulldogs won the 400 Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:22.65.
