Wingate redshirt junior quarterback Cody Haffly completed 20-of-32 passes for a career-high 412 yards and five touchdowns as Wingate defeated Carson-Newman 38-35 in overtime Saturday. The victory gave Wingate its first-ever triumph over Carson-Newman in Jefferson City.

With 2:30 remaining in regulation, Haffly hooked up with redshirt senior wide receiver Philip Thomas for a 66-yard touchdown pass play to tie the contest at 35-35. He had three second-half TD strikes to Thomas and Perry Floyd (twice) to help Wingate rally from a 14-point halftime deficit. The five touchdown passes equals his career-best performance.

For the 2010 season, Haffly is 125-of-199 for 1554 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2009, Haffly completed 179-of-314 passes for 2281 yards and 21 touchdowns. He had only six interceptions on the season. Haffly had three games with three touchdown passes and three games with two TD strikes. In 2009, the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll student was third in the SAC in pass efficiency (136.3).
