Live Blog available for Wingate SAC Tourney match at Catawba

Salisbury, N.C.----The Wingate Sports Network will provide a live blog for tonight's women's soccer match at Catawba. The opening round matchup of the 2009 Food Lion SAC Tournament will begin at 5 p.m. Wingate University Director of Broadcasting Ryan Brown will direct tonight's blog. The blog will begin at 4:30 p.m., and will be the lead story on wingatebulldogs.com at that time.

The Bulldogs went 4-3-1 in conference play, earning the number five seed for the SAC Tournament. Catawba finished the conference season 5-2-1, earning the fourth seed. The Bulldogs are 11-3-3 overall, while Catawba enters the match 12-4-2 on the year.

Wingate defeated Lincoln Memorial 3-1 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. Freshman forward Teri Magee (Derry, Northern Ireland) got the scoring started 9:51 into the first half, netting her first goal of the year. Junior midfielder Julie Zielinski (Erie, Pa.) made it 2-0 in the 22nd minute with her third goal of the year. Junior forward Jenni Barbett (Severn, Md.) capped the scoring on the afternoon with her third goal of the year.

Sophomore forward Kelly Adams (Matthews, N.C.) leads the Bulldogs with nine goals and nine assists this year. She leads the SAC in assists, while her 27 points ranks fifth and her nine goals are good for sixth. Sophomore forward Liz Kinney (Moore, S.C.) is second on the team with eight goals and four assists. She ranks eighth in the league in points and ninth in goals. Sophomore forward Kerstin Williams (Summerville, S.C.) is tied for the team-lead with nine goals on the year.

As a team, the Bulldogs lead the league with 2.71 goals per game, while ranking second with 0.71 goals allowed per game and third with nine shutouts. Freshman goalkeeper Catie Avery (East Hampton, Conn.) leads the SAC with a 0.34 goals against average, while ranking third with an .857 save percentage.

The Bulldogs and Catawba Indians met earlier this year, with Catawba claiming a 2-0 win in Salisbury. Seven of Wingate’s 10 shots were on goal, but Catawba sophomore goalkeeper Lindsay Webster (Hopkinton, Mass.) collected seven saves to notch the shutout.

The winner of this game will take on the winner of the Brevard vs. Carson-Newman contest. That match will take place at Manchester Meadows Soccer Complex in Rock Hill, S.C. at 6 p.m. The championship game will take place Sunday at 4 p.m. in Rock Hill.
