Brandon Nichols (Fayetteville, N.C.) hit a hoop at the buzzer to give the host Royals an 89-88 NCAA Division II men’s basketball victory over Wingate University Friday night at the Ovens Athletic Center.
Wingate sophomore guard
Jaime Vaughn (McDonough, Ga.) converted a jumper from the elbow with 3.1 seconds remaining to put the visiting Bulldogs up 88-87. The edge was Wingate’s first lead of the evening.
Queens junior guard
Reggie Hopkins (Gastonia, N.C.) led all scorers with 22 points. Sophomore forward
Daniel Bailey (Irmo, S.C.) notched a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Nichols added 13 points, while senior guard
Andre Lockhart (St. James, Barbados) contributed 10 markers.

Odell Turner (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Bulldog attack with 21 points each. Turner and freshman guard
Ethan Kincaid (Morganton, N.C.) topped the Wingate charts with eight rebounds each.

David Johnson (Durham, N.C.) had 12 points, including a huge three-point field goal that cut the Wingate deficit to one point late in the contest. Freshman guard
