Kurie Washington (Marion, N.C.) scored a season-high 21 points while pulling down six rebounds to lead the Bulldogs past the Trojans of Anderson University 76-51 in Division II women’s basketball action Wednesday night in Cuddy Arena. The Bulldogs improve to 5-3 on the year, while the Trojans fall to 3-3 overall.

The Bulldogs came out hot, jumping out to a 19-8 lead six minutes into the first half. Rhodes scored four early points, while freshman guard
Sarah Wollett (Raleigh, N.C.) had five points in the early spurt. Anderson answered by scoring the next eight points to cut the lead to three at 19-16, getting a layup and a three from Neal to cap the run.

Wingate outscored Anderson 22-8 during a 13-minute stretch of the second half to take a 21-point lead at the 3:34 mark. An early three from Washington built the lead to 14, while another Washington jumper made it 62-45 at the 6:37 mark.
Wingate took its largest lead of the game on a three-point play from Brooks at the 1:28 mark which made it 74-49. A jumper from Wollett made it 76-51 with less than a minute remaining.
The Bulldogs shot 46.2 percent from the floor on the night, while hitting three-of-six shots from beyond the arc (50 percent). Wingate converted 29 Anderson turnovers into 26 points, while holding a 41-40 edge in rebounding. The Bulldogs outscored the Trojans 38-24 in the paint. Anderson shot 32.2 percent from the field, while hitting four-of-16 from three-point range (25 percent).
The Bulldogs return to action Friday, hosting #15 Clayton State at 5:30 p.m. Wingate will host #17 Francis Marion Saturday at 1:30 p.m. The Trojans are in action Saturday, traveling to Newberry for a 2 p.m. start.
