Charlotte, N.C.----The Wingate University women’s golf team moved up the charts Tuesday, finishing fifth at the 2010 Dana Rader Intercollegiate. The annual event is hosted by Pfeiffer University. The Bulldogs carded a two-day total of 671. Wingate shot 334 Tuesday and 337 Monday.
Fourteen teams participated in this year’s Dana Rader Intercollegiate. Newberry College won the event with a two-day score of 624. UNC Pembroke finished second at 640. Anderson (S.C.), Catawba and Wingate rounded out the top five. The AU Trojans shot 642, while Catawba followed with a 655.
Bulldog junior
Ashley Denton (Wendell, N.C.) tied for 10th place with a 36-hole score of 160. Denton posted a 79 Tuesday to go with her 81 Monday. Senior
Allie Osberg (Chester Springs, Pa.) finished 19th at 164. Osberg followed Monday’s 81 with an 83.
Juniors
Andrea Velasquez (Anaco, Venezuela) and
Anna Lee Croom (Asheboro, N.C.) were next on the Wingate charts. Velasquez was part of a group in 24th place at 168 (85-83). Croom tied for 46th place. The former Asheboro High School product tallied an 89 Tuesday to complete the event at 179. Bulldog freshman
Megan Levy (Zebulon, N.C.) finished at 185 (94-91).
Anderson’s
Sophie Dembroski earned medalist honors with a 148. She shot a two-under-par 70 Tuesday to go with her 78 Monday.
Kelsey Babos of Catawba finished second at 151. First round leader
Valentina Urquiola of Mount Olive was one shot behind Babos at 152. She claimed third place.
Wingate will host the 10th annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament March 29-30. The tourney will be held at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation in Charlotte.
