Pembroke, N.C.----The Wingate University women’s soccer team battled host UNC Pembroke to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes Wednesday night at Varsity Grounds on the UNCP campus. The Bulldogs are 2-1-1 overall, while the Braves are 3-1-1 overall.

Wingate outshot UNC Pembroke 19-10; the Braves held a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Bulldog senior midfielder Julie Zielinski (Erie, Pa.) and freshman defender Holly Holsclaw (Matthews, N.C.) both tallied three shots each for the visitors.

Bulldog freshman goalkeeper Carly Rives (Matthews, N.C.) went the distance, playing 110 minutes. She notched six saves. UNC Pembroke freshman net minder Britney Bennett (Seminole, Fla.) recorded four saves.
Wingate opens South Atlantic Conference play Saturday, hosting Mars Hill College for a 4 p.m. match (please note new site). UNC Pembroke visits Peach Belt Conference rival Flagler (Fla.) College Saturday evening at 5 p.m.
