Anderson, S.C.----Anderson University led from start to finish Wednesday night, taking an 83-72 South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball victory over Wingate University in the Abney Center. The league newcomers remain in second place with the home-court victory.
Anderson is 12-7 overall and 6-3 in the SAC. The number six team in the first Southeast Regional rankings, Wingate falls to 10-7 overall and 5-4 in the SAC. The Bulldogs visit number eight Lincoln Memorial University Saturday night at 8 p.m.

Nick Ross (Carrollton, Texas) led the way with a career-high 18 points. Junior guard
Chase Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md.) equaled his career-high scoring output with 17 points. Classmate
Jaime Vaughn (Tallahassee, Fla.) posted 15 points, while sophomore forward
Odell Turner (Charlotte, N.C.) had 11 points and a team-best eight rebounds. The Bulldogs hit 11-of-21 three-point field goals Wednesday (52.4 percent).

Taylor Shugart (Rock Hill, S.C.) recorded 13 points, while forwards
Trey Britton (Alpharetta, Ga.) and
Tyrell McDowell (Miami, Fla.) had 12 points each. Britton notched a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.
A Jones jumper put Anderson up 26-10 with 7:56 remaining in the first half. The 16-point bulge was the Trojans’ biggest lead of the evening. Two free throws by Smith cut the Wingate deficit to 37-29 with 1:42 left in the opening frame. Anderson led 40-30 at the break. The hosts shot 53.6 percent from the floor (15-of-28) in the first stanza.

Quan Alexander (Charlotte, N.C.) cut the margin to 42-35 with 16:17 to play in the contest. A Britton dunk started 8-0 run by the hosts. An old-fashioned three-point play by Britton ended the flurry at the 14:44 mark, making the score 50-35 Trojans. Wingate would get no closer than seven points down the stretch.
Anderson shot 50 percent (28-of-56) for the game. Jones was seven-of-10 from the field on his way to his game-high night. He filled out his statistics ledger with four rebounds and two assists. The Trojans blocked six shots, with Britton posting four rejections. Shugart blocked the other two shots. Anderson outscored Wingate 36-20 in the paint.
Vaughn nailed four-of-six long-range jumpers, helping Wingate post its 52.4 percent shooting from three-point land Wednesday. Ross hit four-of-seven triples. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Trojans 35-32, thanks to Turner’s eight boards. Alexander pulled down six caroms.
