Wingate, N.C.----For the second time this season, Wingate University senior forward Kelly Adams (Matthews, N.C.) had a goal and three assists as the Bulldogs notched an impressive 6-1 victory over visiting Lincoln Memorial University in South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer action Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs have now won 11 of their last 12 contests, improving to 12-3 overall and 7-1 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fall to 7-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the SAC.

Adams assisted on the first goal of the match 2:44 into the first half, setting up freshman forward AJ Lightbody (Matthews, N.C.), who headed home her sixth goal of the year. The assist was the 41st for Adams in her career, tying the all-time career record in SAC history. Adams broke the record 22 seconds into the second half, setting up Lightbody once again to put the Bulldogs on top 2-0.

Adams added her third assist of the day and league-best 12th of the year 14 minutes later to put Wingate on top by three. Adams crossed one from the corner that was re-directed by sophomore defender Chelsey Horan (Waxhaw, N.C.) to the foot of sophomore forward Chandler Murphy (Pawleys Island, S.C.), who netted her sixth goal of the year.

Murphy scored again less than three minutes later, heading in a rebound after her first shot hit the crossbar. The Railsplitters answered two minutes later, when senior midfielder Leanne Reid (Aberdeen, Scotland) lined one from 25 yards out into the corner to make it 4-1.

Wingate had the answer less than a minute later, when senior forward Izabella Miranda (Plymouth, Mass.) lined a grounder through the box for her first goal of the year to push the lead back to four.  Adams capped the scoring with 19:56 remaining in the contest, placing one over the goalkeeper into the corner of the net from outside the box, making the final 6-1.

The Bulldogs out-shot the LMU Railsplitters 21-12 on the day, while holding a 13-7 edge in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) had six saves for the Bulldogs. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Hanson (Melbourne, Fla.) had seven saves for the Railsplitters.
