St. Augustine, Fla.----The Wingate University women’s golf team finished ninth in the Flagler Fall Slam Tuesday at the Marsh Creek Country Club. Twenty teams and 105 student-athletes participated in this year’s event, hosted by Flagler College.
Wingate freshmen
Karli Soracco (Turner, Maine) and
Lucia Careaga Herrera (Madrid, Spain) tied for 24th place at 161. Careaga Herrera had Wingate’s best round Tuesday with an 80. Soracco shot an 84 Tuesday to go with her team-best 77 Monday. Lynn University’s
Samantha Smolen won the individual title, helping the Fighting Knights top the team charts as well.
Sophomore
Kathryn Rand (Hampstead, N.C.) followed up a first round 82 with a second round 85 to finish tied for 52nd at 167. Classmate
Morgan Pegram (Pfafftown, N.C.) also shot 85 in the second round, finishing at 173, good for a tie for 72nd place.
Wingate was one of five South Atlantic Conference schools participating in this year's event. The Fall Slam marked the conclusion of the Bulldogs fall slate of tournaments. Wingate returns to action in early February in Kiawah Island, S.C.
