Sunset Beach, N.C.----The Wingate University women’s golf team finished 10th in the Lenoir-Rhyne University/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate Tuesday. The annual event is held at the Sea Trail Golf Links. In windy conditions, the Bulldogs trimmed 11 strokes from their first-day score. Wingate shot 339-328=667 for the 36-hole event.
 
Bulldog freshman Lucia Careaga Herrera (Madrid, Spain) recorded a 79 Tuesday, moving up the leader board to a tie for 18th place. She posted an 81 Monday for a two-day total of 160. Wingate sophomore Samantha Pugh-Gilder (Pinehurst, N.C.) and freshman Karli Soracco (Turner, Maine) tied for 36th place.

Pugh-Gilder posted bookend 83s Monday and Tuesday, while Soracco made the biggest move of any Wingate player. She shot 80 Tuesday to go with an 86 from Monday. Sophomore
Kathryn Rand (Hampstead, N.C.) recorded an 86 Tuesday. Sophomore Morgan Pegram (Pfafftown, N.C.) had an 88 Tuesday to go with an 89 Monday.
 
UNC Pembroke rallied to win the team title with a two-day total of 618. The Braves had two players in the top four, including tournament medalist Dana Watkins. The UNCP sophomore shot a one-under-par 71 Tuesday for a two-day total of 148. Three players tied for second at 150, including Tusculum freshman Emee Herbert.
 
Twenty-one teams and 113 individuals participated in this year’s LRU/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate event. The Bulldogs return to the links Oct. 17-18, as they will participate in the Peggy Rendleman Invitational. The annual event is hosted by Catawba College at the Country Club of Salisbury.
