Wingate, N.C.----If you’re even slightly familiar with Wingate University athletics, you’re probably aware of the long-standing rivalry between the Wingate Bulldogs and the Catawba College Indians. Games between the two teams are always high stakes, high energy and highly competitive.
The women’s soccer match between Wingate and Catawba on Wednesday, Nov. 2 was no exception. We pulled through with a confident 4-1 victory, including a hat-trick by outstanding freshman forward
Jade Montgomery, but the outpouring amount of support for breast cancer awareness was also a definite win.
This game was special for a very important reason. The contest marked the inaugural Wingate women’s soccer Breast Cancer Awareness Game. To show our support, we sported our pink jerseys for warm-ups, pink nails, pink streaks in our hair, etc., etc. The team raised over $100 which will be donated to the
Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. Overall, I think it was a great success and the start of something great for this program.
