Brevard, N.C.----The Wingate University men’s basketball team visits Brevard College Saturday for the South Atlantic Conference regular season finale. The Bulldogs and Tornados will tip-off at 4 p.m. Saturday in Boshamer Gymnasium.
The Wingate University sports network will provide
live audio from courtside. The Brevard College Sports Information department will make available
live statistics.
In the first meeting between the two teams this season, the Bulldogs led wire-to-wire in a 65-49 victory over the BC Tornados on Saturday, Jan. 22 in Cuddy Arena. Wingate scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back. Brevard is the defending Food Lion SAC tournament champions.
Sophomore point guard
Ethan Kincaid (Morganton, N.C.) had 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Wingate attack. Sophomore forward
Odell Turner (Charlotte, N.C.) added 10 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman forward
Jeffrey Parker (Madison, N.C.) had 10 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
On Wednesday night, Anderson University shot 68 percent in the second half and weathered a valiant comeback to take an 87-81 SAC men’s basketball victory over Wingate University in Cuddy Arena. The two teams are tied for second place entering the last weekend of the regular season. The Bulldogs see a six-game winning streak end with the loss.
Turner had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead the home-standing Bulldogs Wednesday. Junior guard
Chase Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md.) had 17 points.
Paidrick Matilus (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Kincaid contributed 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Wingate has won two of the last three meetings between the two schools. On Feb. 13, 2010, the Bulldogs earned a 93-81 victory at Brevard. Recent graduate
Larry Staley had 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visitors. On March 3, 2010, Brevard senior guard
Josh Roper exploded for 30 points as the BC Tornados survived over the Bulldogs 88-79 in the first round of the league tournament.
The Bulldogs will host a first round contest in the
Food Lion SAC tournament on Wednesday, March 2 at 8 p.m. The Food Lion SAC Final Four will be held at the Catawba Valley Community College Multipurpose Complex Saturday and Sunday, March 5-6. The Bulldogs have won three Food Lion SAC tournament titles.
