Early second half barrage leads NSU Sharks past Bulldogs 4-1

Milledgeville, Ga.----The Sharks of Nova Southeastern University scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of the second half en route to a 4-1 victory over Wingate University Bulldogs in NCAA Division II women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field on the campus of Georgia College. With the Bobcat Shootout victory, the Sharks improve to 3-0 overall, while Wingate falls to 1-2 on the season.
 
The Sharks wasted little time getting on the board, taking a 1-0 lead 4:36 into the opening half when senior forward Shanoska Young (Kingston, Jamaica) netted her second goal of the season. The Young tally would represent the scoring in the first stanza, with each team taking three shots in the opening 45 minutes. 

Nova Southeastern struck early in the second half, scoring three times in the first 16 minutes. The first goal came 4:44 into the second frame, when Young found sophomore midfielder Malin Broberg (Stockholm, Sweden) for her first goal of the year to make the margin 2-0.
 
The Sharks struck again less than four minutes later when a shot hit the post and came to freshman midfielder Shadia Blair (Springfield, Mass.), who netted her first goal of the year to make the score 3-0. Nova Southeastern added another goal seven minutes later, when freshman defender Andi Burchfield (Greenville, S.C.) took a cross from senior defender Rachael Reid (Plainfield. Ind.) to give NSU a 4-0 lead.
 
The Bulldogs got on the board with 13 minutes remaining in the second half, when sophomore defender Chandler Murphy (Daniels Island, S.C.) netted her first goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Meaghan Barry (Naples, Fla.) had the assist on the play.
 
Wingate outshot Nova Southeastern 11-9 on the day, with each team registering seven shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Chrissy Hy (Weston, Fla.) had six saves to preserve the victory for NSU. Freshman Ashlyn Hardie (Summerfield, N.C.) registered three saves for the Bulldogs.
 
Wingate returns to action Tuesday, traveling to Queens University of Charlotte for a 6 p.m. start. The Sharks host Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University Wednesday at 7 p.m.
