Casey King (Danvers, Mass.) scored with 2:56 remaining in the second overtime to give the visiting Bulldogs a 4-3 win over the Queens University of Charlotte Royals in NCAA Division II women’s soccer action Tuesday night. The Bulldogs improve to 2-2 overall on the season, while Queens falls to 0-5 overall.

At the half, Wingate held a 10-4 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal. The Bulldogs had 11 corner kicks in the opening half, while Queens had one. The score was knotted 1-1 at intermission.
The ‘Dogs took the lead 15 minutes into the second half, when senior defender
Megan Mastalerz (Elkridge, Md.) scored her first goal of the season to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 advantage. McGuffin scored five minutes later to tie the contest at two, with the assist coming from junior forward

Hannah Holsclaw (Matthews, N.C.) netted her second goal of the year to put the Bulldogs on top 3-2. Junior midfielder

Queens had the answer, getting a goal from sophomore midfielder
Heather Wilemon (Statesville, N.C.) with 7:10 remaining in regulation to tie things at three. Foil had the assist on the game-tying goal.
After 17 minutes of scoreless action in overtime, King drilled the game-winner from 18 yards out, her first goal of the season, to give the ‘Dogs the dramatic victory. Wingate outshot Queens 27-10 on the night, while holding a 17-5 edge in shots on goal. Wingate sophomore goalkeeper

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, opening South Atlantic Conference play at Mars Hill College. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wingate will open its home slate Monday, Sept. 19, hosting USC Aiken at 7 p.m. The Royals travel to Conference Carolinas rival St. Andrews Presbyterian College Saturday at 2 p.m.
