Strong second half helps Wingate top Anderson (S.C.) 4-1

Box Score Anderson, S.C.----The Wingate University women’s soccer team scored three second half goals to take a 4-1 South Atlantic Conference triumph over Anderson (S.C.) University Saturday at Trojan Stadium. The Bulldogs have won six matches in a row.
 
With the victory, Wingate improves to 9-1-1 overall and 6-1 in the SAC. Anderson falls to 5-5-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the SAC. The Bulldogs return home Wednesday, hosting UNC Pembroke at 5 p.m. The UNC Pembroke contest will serve as Wingate’s Breast Cancer Awareness match for the 2012 season.
 
“We had a good team performance today,” Wingate head coach Gary Curneen says. “We created many chances…and exhibited patience on offense. Our patience paid dividends in the final 20 minutes. I was pleased with the way we took care of business.”
 
Bulldog sophomore forward Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) scored the match-winner in the 69th minute. The Piedmont High School product leads the SAC with 15 goals this season. Sophomore midfielder Katie Simpson (Indian Trail, N.C.) provided the assist via a corner kick.
 
Simpson had a hand in Wingate’s third goal. Her corner kick helped freshman midfielder Danielle Cremmen (Acton, Mass.) record her second goal of the season in the 82nd minute. Eighty-one seconds later, Cremmen provided an assist for classmate Kalyn Meosky (Hickory, N.C.) to complete the scoring. A St. Stephens High School graduate, Meosky has three goals this year.
 
Wingate senior forward Shelby Forza (Pickering, Ontario) put the Bulldogs on the board in the 26th minute. The two-sport standout (soccer, track) was assisted on the play by junior midfielder Holly Holsclaw (Matthews, N.C.). Anderson junior forward Krystal Goss (Newry, S.C.) tallied her team-best sixth goal of the season to tie the score in the 43rd minute.
 
The Bulldogs pelted the Anderson goal with 27 shots. The Trojans managed only five shots. Wingate held a 10-0 corner kick advantage. Bulldog senior goalkeeper Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) played 90 minutes and recorded two saves. Anderson junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Neipp (Anderson, S.C.) stayed busy, posting 16 saves. The 2011 All-SAC performer also went the distance Saturday.
