Danielle Cremmen named SAC Player of the Week

Rock Hill, S.C.----Wingate University freshman midfielder Danielle Cremmen (Acton, Mass.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference women’s soccer Player of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday afternoon. Cremmen becomes the third different Bulldog to win this award in the last three weeks, joining sophomore Jade Montgomery (Monroe, N.C.) and senior Shelby Forza (Pickering, Ontario). She wins the award for the first time in her career.

Cremmen scored a pair of goals in Wingate’s key 3-2 victory over Tusculum College Saturday in the regular season finale. Cremmen scored the first goal of the game to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. She added a goal late in the second half that ended up being the game winner, helping the Bulldogs clinch the number two seed in this week’s Food Lion SAC Tournament. Wingate finished the regular season on a 10-match winning streak, going into the postseason at 13-1-1 overall and 8-1 in the SAC.

Cremmen has had a solid rookie season for the Bulldogs, ranking fourth on the team with four goals and 13 points, while ranking third with five assists. She ranks eighth in the SAC in assists and 14th in points. Saturday was Cremmen’s first career multi-goal game. She registered a pair of assists in her collegiate debut against Limestone. Cremmen had a goal and an assist in Wingate’s 4-1 win at Anderson.

The Bulldogs are the number two seed in this week’s SAC Tournament, hosting Newberry Wednesday at 2 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinals Friday at 4 p.m. at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C., taking on the winner of the Tusculum-Lincoln Memorial match. The SAC championship game will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. in Rock Hill.
