Miriam Boucher (Calgary, Alberta) saved a penalty kick and the final Tusculum College attempt sailed wide as the Bulldogs advanced to the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference championship match with a 4-3 penalty kick shootout decision Friday evening at Manchester Meadows.
Wingate and Tusculum were tied 1-1 after regulation and two 10-minute overtimes. The Bulldogs advance to the conference championship match for the third consecutive season. Wingate is 14-1-2 overall, while Tusculum is 12-3-3 overall. The Bulldogs play Lenoir-Rhyne Sunday at 1 p.m.
“This team has something special,” Wingate head coach
Gary Curneen says. “We had character to come from behind and the belief to stick with it. We are looking forward to Sunday; hopefully we can produce another performance on a big occasion.”

Tusculum struck first in regulation, as senior forward
Tramicka James (Wilson, N.C.) scored on an assist from freshman defender
Alisha Pugh (Sandy, Bedfordshire, England) in the 53rd minute. Moldenhauer tied the contest in the 81st minute on a penalty kick, setting the stage for the two wild overtimes and the penalty kick shootout.
Wingate outshot Tusculum 26-12. The Bulldogs held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. Montgomery took a match-high 11 shots, with four on goal. Boucher had four saves, while Tusculum sophomore goalkeeper
Marissa Williams (Canton, Mich.) recorded nine saves. Both student-athletes went the distance Friday evening.
