Charlotte, N.C.----The Wingate University women’s golf team claimed fourth place (out of 15 teams) in the Dana Rader Intercollegiate at the Ballantyne Resort Tuesday (par 72, 5845 yards). Wingate shot 322 Tuesday and 312 Monday for a 634 total. Bulldog freshman Lucia Careaga Herrera (Madrid, Spain) tied for fifth place with a two-day score of 151.
 
Careaga Herrera finished two shots out of first place, with a 79 Tuesday to go with her 72 Monday. Wingate sophomore Samantha Pugh-Gilder (Pinehurst, N.C.) lowered her first round score by three strokes, posting a 76 Tuesday after a 79 Monday. She tied for 13th place at 155.

Sophomore Morgan Pegram (Pfafftown, N.C.) finished the 36-hole event with a 163. Freshman Karli Soracco (Turner, Maine) was two strokes back at 165, while junior Megan Levy (Zebulon, N.C.) completed her work at 172.

Lander rallied to take the team title with a two-day total of 615. The Bearcats’ 310 Tuesday was the best round of the tournament’s second day. First-round leader Midwestern State (Texas) was second at 618, while host Pfeiffer was third at 632. Wingate was the top South Atlantic Conference finisher out of three league schools. Armstrong (Ga.) junior Kelly Pearce (Albany, Ga.) won medalist honors via a scorecard play-off.

Wingate will host the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation March 26-27. Admission to the 36-hole, two-day tournament is free and open to the public.
