Da Silva leads Bulldogs to 2-0 victory at Belmont Abbey

Belmont, N.C.----Wingate University junior forward Peron Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored a pair of goals Wednesday afternoon, leading the visiting Bulldogs to a 2-0 victory at Belmont Abbey in NCAA Division II men's soccer action. Wingate wins its third straight match, improving to 6-2 overall. The Crusaders fall to 2-6 on the season.

The first half would go by scoreless, with Wingate holding a 5-1 advantage in shots. The Bulldogs had a 3-0 edge in shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes.

Da Silva got the Bulldogs on the board 20 minutes into the second half, netting his third goal of the season to give Wingate a 1-0 advantage.

Da Silva added an insurance goal with just over five minutes remaining to make the final margin 2-0.

Wingate outshot Belmont Abbey 16-6 on the afternoon, holding a 5-0 advantage in shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Sanjit Kang (Mississauga, Canada) preserved the Wingate shutout. Kyle Searles registered five saves for the Crusaders.

The Bulldogs return to action Friday, traveling to Mars Hill for a 7:30 p.m. start. This will be the third consecutive road match for Wingate. The 'Dogs travel to Coker next Wednesday, then return home Friday to host Brevard at 7 p.m.
